Kidnappers have shot dead two persons identified as Agu Jospeh and Tunani Jossey and abducted one other in Huni-Gwari near Darka in Gundun-Karya ward of Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Kuje Area Council, which had recorded several attacks in the past, witnessed a drastic reduction in such incidents of recent, while erstwhile Commissioner of Police, Ben Igwe, was in-charge with hot chase on criminals in their various hideouts, with pockets of attacks in some remote communities.
A resident of Huntingdon-Gwari, Samson Danjuma, said one other person, Ra’azanyi Yusuf, who sustained bullet injuries, has reportedly died at the National Hospital, where he was referred to.
He said the incident happened on Monday night around 9:12 pm when the kidnappers wielding sophisticated weapons invaded the community.
He said the kidnappers, shot sporadically into different directions, and whisked away one of the villagers, saying the two persons attempted to escape when one of the kidnappers opened fire and killed them.
He said the injured Ra’azanyi Yusuf was also attempting to escape when he was shot by one of the kidnappers.
“The other victim, Ra’azanyi Yusuf, who sustained bullets injuries still managed to escape to the neighbouring Darka village in pool of his blood, before some villagers now took him to the hospital in Gadabuke treatment,” he said.
He was said to have been referred to the National Hospital, where he was confirmed dead yesterday.
Danjuma further disclosed that a similar incident happened on Saturday night when the kidnappers earlier invaded neighbouring Gudun-Karya community and abducted two women in the area.
He said though, one of the women managed to escaped from their captivity on Monday evening, the remaining woman was still being held in their captivity.
“It was the woman, who escaped that informed the villagers in Huni -Gwari that the abducted victim in the community was seen at the kidnappers’ den, because we thought that he was also killed as he could not be found when the kidnappers invaded Huni Gwari on that Monday night,’’ he said.
He said the corpses of the two victims were yet to be buried by their relations.
Abuja Metro gathered that a team of policemen from Gundun -Karya visited the Huni-Gwari community on Tuesday morning over the incident.
Our correspondent also learnt that members of the vigilantes in the community and some neighbouring villages mobilised themselves and stormed the forest in order to trace the kidnappers’ hideouts.
It was gathered that the vigilantes have been in the forest since Monday night in an effort to rescue the abducted victims, including a woman who was abducted from neighbouring Gudun-Karya community on Saturday night.
A member of the vigilante from the area, identified as Daudu Gambo, confirmed the killing of the two villagers and the abduction of one person from Huni-Gwari village on Monday night by the kidnappers.
“Already, some of our members from neighbouring villages in the area were still in the bush since Monday, trying to locate the kidnappers’ hideouts and rescue the victims,” he said.
When contacted, the spokeswoman of the FCT Police Command, SP Adeh Josephine, said, “I will call to confirm and get back to you.”
