Former Governor of Edo State, Professor Oserhimen Osunbor, has declared his intention to return as Governor of the State to take over from the incumbent Governor, Goodwin Obaseki.

Speaking with ExpressDay in an exclusive interview, the erudite scholar said: “Yes, I’ve been inundated will calls to return as the next Governor of Edo State. I have decided. I’m in the race to come back as the next Governor of Edo State, God willing”.

Osunbor’s tenure as Governor was truncated on the 11the of November, 2008 by an Appeal Court judgement which upheld the earlier decision of an election tribunal that adjudged Comrade Adams Oshiomhole the winner of the governorship election in 2007.

The newspaper gathered that the people of Edo State have, however, over the years found in the scholar-turned politician, a worthy, progressive and selfless leader who can help them harness their human and material resources for sustainable growth and development.

Speaking about the suitability of the former Senator, Barrister Noble Okhidemeh had this to say: “It is the turn of Edo Central to produce the next Governor in 2024. In Esan land today, there is no better qualified person that His Excellency Professor (Senator) Oserhimen Osunbor”.

Several other respondents spoke with high optimism about the entrance into the race of the  Professor of Law.

Osunbor who is a stalwart of the All Progressives  Congress (APC) further shed light on why he is seeking to govern Edo State again: “For equity and fareness, it is now the turn of the part of Edo State that I come from to produce the next Governor.

“Apart from experience in leadership and governance, my decision to contest is a result of wide consultations”.

The Edo governorship Election is an off-season election coming up next year, 2024.
