*Imo 37, Taraba 33, lead these insecurity ravaged states
High level insecurity in the North-East and South-East geopolitical zones have affected voters’ registration turnout as both zones lead the figures of 240 polling units rrleased by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with no registered voters and so, no election in those units.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, had on Monday disclosed at a meeting with political parties in Abuja, that these polling units have no registered voters, adding that the total number of polling units in the country is now 176,606.
Upon observing the list it was shown that, the North-East region with 65 polling units has the highest with no elections; Adamawa 4, Bauchi 6, Borno 11, Taraba 33 and Yobe 11.
Closely behind the North-East with no-election polling units is the South-East with 63 units; comprising of Abia 12, Anambra 6, Ebonyi 4, Enugu 4 and the worst there being in Imo with 37 units.
Others are the North-West with 47 no-election polling units; made up of Jigawa 3, Kaduna 8, Kano 10, Katsina 12, Kebbi 5, Sokoto 8 and Zamfara 1.
North-Central has 38 no-election polling units; Benue 10, Kwara 1, Nasarawa 11, Plateau 5 as well as the FCT with 11.
South-South has 8; Bayelsa 2, Delta 4, Edo 1 and Rivers 1 but the entire South-West has only 5; Lagos with 3 and Ondo has 2.
The list also shows that eight states were not on the noelection polling units list including: Kogi, Gombe, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ekiti, Ogun, Osun and Oyo.
Prof. Yakubu, while addressing party leaders had said voters assigned to new polling units will receive text messages to know their new polling units, before the February 25 and March 11, 2023 general elections.
