Controversy was brewing on twitter at the weekend over a video tape showing Asiwaju Bola Tinubu supposedly repeating gibberish in greeting to the Oba of Benin during a campaign stop in the Edo State capital last Thursday.

While it turned out that a portion of the tape was doctored apparently in mischief against the APC presidential ticket, the full portion of the tape on youtube was, however, not winning Tinubu much applause.

The 31 minute video video saw the APC presidential candidate speaking babble sometimes to the discomfort of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole who was by his side and had to repeatedly direct him to his prepared text.

In between the seeming jabber, Tinubu who repeatedly attacked President Olusegun Obasanjo and the PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar the APC candidate said:

“They spent 16 billion dollars and dem no fit generate electricity for popcorn.”

Besides the comments on the speech itself, there were some who made an issue of the fact that Tinubu did not visit a courtesy call on the Benin monarch during his campaign swing to the state.

Some of the reactions to the comments on twitter regarding the Tinubu campaign video states:

Powell Swags @powell_swags

Edo people from today , when una reach Oba palace tell am say tinubu don change the slang it’s now -Oba Izu Kpaye.

Anthony Asher @asherforchrist

One thing you people haven’t deduced from the dr-g Lords visit to edo state is that the Oba of benin did not give him audience..

Still reacting to the campaign video of Asiwaju Tinubu to Benin Chekwas Uche @Uche03326969 wrote:

If this is blown out of proportion it would cost not just Tinubu losing Edo but also adams . Edo has great reverence for their monarch and things like this can easily upset them

Tinubu can’t win Edo. It’s the most voters enlightened state. Edo is PO from what I observed

Ayuba Ibn Braimah @MgrAyuba

He insulted us. I did blame him, I blamed Oshiomhole who brought him to Edo State to campaign and started insulting us. Calling Yahoo Yahoo boys…. Our answer to him is in February.

The first part of this video was edited and placed on repeat x3 or x4 times. We should not engage in such.
