Enugu suporters of Mr Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate thronged out this morning to stage a 2-million-man march in his support.
The men, women and youths who gathered very early at the Michael Okpara Square in the city centre, began their long walk across the city, chanting support songs while playing musical instruments and dancing.
They bore banners, and were colorfully dressed for the occasion.
Business activities were paralysed as a result as excited residents left their businesses to join the fray.
The rally was very peaceful as the excited participants conducted themselves in an orderly manner.
Some residents, who were not part of the crowd at the inception, abandoned their activities to join the crowd chanting “Obi is our next president”.
Speaking shortly during the street march, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who prefers anonymity, said the leadership of the party is now forced to the drawing board. The Obidients Movement in Enugu is no more a joke.
“Thehe crowd of human beings we saw today forced us into an emergency meeting. Enugu people have never participated in political rally or any other political activity with this kind of numbers, even with rented crowd.
We thought it will be a joke, but sincerely, we are confused at the moment.
“The worst is that some of our notable members have surreptitiously joined the Labor Party.
“We only hope that this unslaught will end at the Presidential election. If Obidients sustain this momentum to Gubernatorial and State house of assembly elections, then we are in for a bigger problem.
He added that PDP will always find a solution to defeat the Obidients both at the Federal and state level, adding that the LP lacks presence at the ward level and polling booths.
“Labor Party (LP) can not subdue us at the polling booths. We have their key,” he later boasted.
