Nigeria: Gombe Police arrest 23 ‘Yan Kalare’ political urchins terrorizing residents

The Gombe State Police Command, has arrested 23 political urchins popularly known as ‘Yan Kalare’ for the offence of criminal conspiracy, unlawful society, inciting disturbance of public peace , and being in possession of dangerous weapons. 

The State Police Spokesperson, ASP Mahid Mu’azu Abubakar, told journalists in Gombe that they were arrested on Monday at about 0100hrs by the Police Tactical team from Gombe Divisional headquarters.

Abubakar said the teams, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Gombe Division who also serves as Commander Patrol 999 when they raided criminal hideouts within Malan-Inna quarters Gombe.

Stating that the 23 suspected Kalare boys/thugs/cultists have been terrorizing the area and other parts of Gombe town, the PPRO noted that the dangerous weapons recovered from them have been registered as exhibits include:15 machetes; 2 long daggers; 1 Axe and five 5 sticks.

The Suspects are said to have confessed to the crime while investigation is on-going after which the case will be charged to court for prosecution. 

The Commissioner of Police, Ishola Babaita used the medium to appeal to all peace loving citizens of Gombe State to continue to partner, and co-operate with the Command by furnishing it with credible information about the activities of the men of the underworld. 

He assured that the Command will not tolerate any kind of thuggery or radicalism before, during and after the electioneering campaigns advising parents/guardians to warn their children or words against any unwholesome act.
