Over 700 Catholic priests on Thursday staged a peaceful protest during the burial of one of their colleagues who was killed by bandits last weekend in Kaduna State.

The victim, Reverend Father Vitus Borogo, who was the Chaplain of the Catholic Community in Kaduna Polytechnic, was killed on his farm at Kujama in Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

At the event held on Thursday at the Queen of Apostle Catholic Church, the Archbishop of Kaduna Archdiocese, Most Rev. Matthew Ndagoso, lamented the rising insecurity in the country.

He stated that Nigeria has become a killing field and a failed state under President Muhammadu Buhari due to the country’s security situation. 

The cleric lamented that Nigerians now live in perpetual fear and have become hopeless due to the rising attacks and killings, while the Federal Government seems to be either adopt non-effective means to tackle the probelm or incapacitated in handling the issue.

According to Bishop Ndagoso, the time had come for the government to establish state police in order to protect the vulnerable communities against bandits attacks since those saddled with the responsibility of protecting the lives and property of the citizens have failed to do so.

He wondered why kidnappers, bandits and killers should go after priests, stressing that it is a sacrilege to do so.

The priests held a candle light procession, while praying the rosary and commended the souls of all the departed into the hand of Blessed Virgin Mary for her intercession.
