*Prays for his ailing daughter

The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has expressed solidarity with the embattled former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife, Beatrice over their travails.

The Ekweremadus were on Thursday remanded after appearing before a UK court on charges of bringing a child to the UK for organ harvesting.

Reacting, in a tweet on Friday, Obi said: “My family and I are with the Ekweremadu’s over their travail.

“We join all men of goodwill in praying for the healing of their daughter and commit them into God’s hand for justice to be done.”

Ekweremadu was recently in the news for saying the South-East region would not vote for Obi in the 2023 elections.

The UK Metropolitan Police had said investigation was launched into the organ harvesting allegation after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022.

The court can jail them for life if the allegations are proved.
