An arrested Fulani kidnapping suspect who gave his name as Bashir has confessed, saying the weapons his gang uses are got from the Nigeria Army.

Bashir who hails from Jigawa State was arrested by the Imo State Police Command.

He incriminated 34 Field Artillery, Obinze in kidnapping activities in Imo State.

In his confessional statement, he revealed that men from the 34 Field Artillery Brigade gave them operational guns which they pay after the exercise.

He said that they hide their guns and other offensive paraphernalia at the Federal University of Technology (FUTO) grazing areas in Owerri-West Local Government Area.

Bashir stated that the motorcycles used in kidnapping operations were given to them by the former governor of Jigawa State as empowerment package.

In the same vein, the Commissioner of Police Imo Police Command, Aboki Danjuma who was highly commended by the Imo State people had declared the area kidnappers’ hide out.

He gave assurance that he would continue to trace all the routes of kidnappers in the state with a view to arrest them no matter whose ox is gored.

On Monday, the police combed Avu-Ihiagwa forest (FUTO front gate) and arrested six Fulani herdsmen – all from Jigawa State with assorted rifles, other weapons and motorcycles.

The police also recovered three decomposing bodies in the forest behind Obinze Barracks and FUTO forest.

The South East Bureau Chief of the Vanguard Newspaper, Chief Chidi Nkwopara while speaking at at 107.3 FM programme tagged Politics 107 said that for a long time, residents had pointed to happenings in the area.

A community leader in Avu-Obinze urged the Commissioner of Police to parade the kidnap suspects before.

He urged Imo State Government to ban use of motorcycles throughout the state because they have easy means of transport for kidnappers.

Efforts to get the Army Public Relations Officer (APRO) proved abortive.
