President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had kept quiet as at midday Wednesday even as friends and even some foes of his political rival, Mr. Peter Obi, celebrated the Labour Party presidential candidate on his 62nd birthday.
Obi had opted for a quiet birthday urging his friends to direct attention to the down-trodden and the displaced.
Among those who have so far celebrated Obi was Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election who was undeniably, the greatest loser from Obi’s decision to contest the presidential election.
Obi’s emergence starved Atiku of traditional votes in the South-East and South-South.
However, putting aside the political loss, Atiku in a message on twitter wrote:
“Peter Obi is a respected leader and distinguished former governor of Anambra state and presidential candidate of the Labour Party. Your dedication to service and growth continues to inspire. As you add another year today, I, on behalf of my family and team wish you many more years in good health and vitality”.
Similarly, Reno Omokri who has been isolated as one of the most vitrolic critic of Obi in his message on twitter wrote:
“Here’s wishing Mr Peter Obi a happy 62nd birthday. In your time on Earth, you have indelibly etched your footprints in the sands of time for good.
“And perhaps your most worthy achievement is giving hope to millions of Nigerians, especially those who self-identify as Obidients.
Obidients, as supporters of Peter Obi were identified, got more eccletic on Twitter showering encomiums on their democracy icon with praises.
Yet, President Tinubu has kept mum as at early afternoon on Obi, whose supporters have been unrelenting in their pursuit of him as one who supposedly took the mandate they claim they gave to their mentor.
The Obidients have been celebrating Obi on his birthday with several hastags including: My President, The Lion, New Nigeria, Making Nigeria great again is POssible, among others.
Hilda Dokubo, the celebrated Nollywood actress in her greetings to My President tweeted thus:
“It’s world @ Peter Obi day. My boss, my leader, my brother, my friend, My President is 62 today. I celebrate an exceptional man, people-loving and God-fearing. My principal, you shall enjoy greater grace and favour.
“My people, let’s shower him with sincere words of prayer”.
Akin Osuntokun, Director-General, LP Presidential Campaign Council tweeted thus:
“Happy birthday His Excellency. A New Nigeria is POssible”.
FS Yusuf, a member of the Obi-Datti Campaign Council tweeted: “Thank you for creating a blueprint for us to follow. Happy birthday my President “.
