The remains of the late Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, has been interred today, Saturday, April 23, 2022, in accordance with Islamic injunction.

The late Alaafin was a devout Muslim and passed on at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, on Friday night, aged 83.

A first-class traditional ruler and permanent Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Traditional Rulers, the late Alaafin reigned for 52 years.

Oba Adeyemi III is the third prominent traditional ruler to die in the past five months, the others being the Soun of Ogbomosoland, late Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade III, who passed on in December, 2021 and the late Oba Saliu Adetunji, the 41st Olubadan of Ibadanland, died on Jan. 2.

A one-time boxer, husband of several wives and father of many children, the late Oba was a foremost promoter of Yoruba culture and traditions.
