Two vigilante members have been shot dead during a shootout with terrorists at Gasakpa community in Gawu ward, Abaji Area Council of Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

A member of the vigilante simply identified as Ishaku said the incident happened around 4:30pm on Thursday at a forest bordering the FCT and Niger State.

Ishaku said the incident occurred when the vigilantes mobilised to the forest to rescue a farmer, Aliyu Musa, who was abducted on his farm by the terrorists.

Musa said the vigilantes were approaching the terrorists’ den when the gunmen suddenly laid in ambush on them.

According to him, two members of the vigilantes were killed during the exchange of fire, adding that their remains were evacuated and have been buried.

Musa said four other vigilantes who sustained bullets wounds were receiving treatment at a private hospital in Lambata, Niger State.

The spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, DSP Adeh Josephine, decided not to respond to inquiries on the incident.

Terrorists have in recent months been terrorising residents of Adagba, Gurdi, Paiko Bassa, Rafin-Daji communities in the Abaji Area Council of Abuja, which shares boundary with some communities in Niger State.
