There is anxiety in Enugu as the electorate and residents wait for the results of the Governoship and House of Assembly elections which held across the country Saturday.

With over 3,321 results uploaded from the various ward, it has remained a close battle between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP’s) candidate, Barr. Peter Mbah and Labour Party (LP’s) Chijioke Edeoga.

There was however, low turnout of voters compared to the Presidential election which recorded an unprecedented voter turnout, ostensibly due to the violation of the Electoral Act by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The election in the state was considerably peaceful apart from reports of thuggery in some areas, particularly in Enugu North and Enugu East senatorial zones, where, encouraged by refusal of security agencies to play their role of maintaining law and order, but seemingly partisan, Party supporters engaged in voter suppression.

It was however, reported that security agents arrested scores of armed thugs around Nsukka and Isi-uzo Local Government Areas just as the candidate of the LP, Edeoga informed journalists that some of his supporters were shot.

Like what happened in the past, the public are not certain that those arrested would be dragged to the court.

The conclusion of collation and uploading of result is expected to be rounded off Sunday and results declared.

The two parties have continued to claim victory on the social media.
