The Oni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ọjájá II) has described former Nigerian High Ambassador to the Philippines, United States, South Africa and China, Ambassador Yemi Faroumbi as an outstanding diplomat and an elder statesman committed to the unity and development of the country.
The Oni who was represented by His Royal Majesty, Oba Adedire Adewole Solomon, Onifegunwa of Ifegunwa ile ife, made the disclosure at the weekend in Ibadan at the launch of the biography of Amb. Faroumbi titled: Yemi Faroumbi: His World, His Words, His Works.
The Royal father said that the elder statesman has always distinguished himself as a warehouse of knowledge which the younger generation should tap into. He commended him for the efforts he made in articulating his ideas into a magnum opus and said that it will serve as an inexhaustible source of knowledge for the younger generation.
Also in his speech, former Minister of Education, Prof. Tunde Adeniran said that Amb. Faroumbi has always shown strong commitment towards the unity and development of the country. He said that he was not surprised that the diplomat gave consent to immortalize his ideas by documenting it in a book.
AIG Bola Longe who represented Aare Afe Babalola, in his speech, recommended that government at all levels ought to tap into the wisdom and vision of Amb. Faroumbi to drive international diplomacy.
Reading his citation, Dr. Osanyin Babajide Adeniyi, a Media Consultant said that Amb. Faroumbi has been a dedicated public servant and a true example of what it means to service one’s country with honour and dignity.
“Ambassador Faroumbi is also an accomplished writer. He has published several books on diplomacy, international relations, and African’s role in the world. He has also given lectures and speeches at various universities and conferences around the world.
Ambassador Faroumbi was offered a position in the foreign service and he began his career as a junior attaché at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington, D.C. It was during this time that he truly discovered his passion for diplomacy and international affairs. He worked tirelessly, often putting in long hours to complete his work.
“Over the course of his career, he has been tireless advocate of peace, justice and cooperation. He has used his skills and knowledge to make a real difference in the world, and his colleagues and peers”.
