The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Rivers State, Barr. Zacchaeus Adangor, has tendered his resignation.
This was as the Commissioner for Special Projects, Chief Emeka Woke has equally resigned.
The development was contained in a letter dated 14th December, 2023 and addressed to the state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
In the letter, Adangor said his resignation was “based purely on personal reasons”.
However, unlike Adangor, whose letter of resignation is now a public document, Woke’s letter is yet to be seen, nor has he made the reason for his resignation public.
Both are also members of the kitchen cabinet of the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, whose disagreement with his political son, Fubara, is behind the political fire currently threatening to incinerate Rivers State.
They were also among the first commissioners appointed by Governor Fubara, who was believed to have made the appointments on Wike’s instructions.
Though none of them has in any way been mentioned in the on-going crisis in the state, it must not be unconnected with the expression of their loyalty to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, whom they served while he was governor of the state.
Emeka Woke servwd Wike for eight years as Chief of Staff, Government House, while Adangor for the better half of the Wike’s eight years, served as a member of his kitchen cabinet.
Wednesday, the Rivers State Governor, presented the 2024 Budget Proposal of N800 billion to the five-member State House of Assembly led by Hon. Edison Ehie.
The presentation was done at the Government House, Port Harcourt, following the demolition of the Assembly Complex by the state government and in line with a State High Court order which restrained Hon. Ehie’s contender, Hon. Martins Amaewhule, from using the Assembly complex or parading himself as Speaker.
The Ehie-group had before the arrival of the governor, met and declared vacat the seats of the 27 members that defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), an action that seemingly legitimised the sitting by only five members.
Similar scenario had played out in Enugu State around 2002 and in Edo State four years ago.
Hon. Ehie and Hon. Amaewhule have been embroiled in a Speakership tussle which is currently pending in court.
Present at the budget presentation on Wednesday included Ehie and four members of the House loyal to him.
Also present were a former Speaker of the House, Hon. Adams Dabotorudinma; and former Deputy Speaker, Hon. Marshal Uwom.
The Assembly was demolished amid tight security about two months after fire gutted the complex.
The demolition started around 6:45am, with the state governor with 10 bulldozers.
The Rivers State Government said the demolition was carried out on the advice of consultants, who warned that the building is no longer habitable after an explosion in the premises some last week.
