*Suspended EFCC Chairman now in DSS custody
The Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed that they invited Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to their office, and that the anti-graft agency’s erstwhile boss is presently with them.
A statement by Peter Afunanya Ph.D, Public Relations Officer, DSS, National Headquarters, Abuja, said that Bawa arrived their offices “a few hours ago” and that the invitation relates to some investigative activities concerning Bawa.
The EFCC Chairman was suspended by President Bola Tinubu.
It has also been discovered that Bawa, as Zonal Head of the Lagos office of EFCC had on 6th November, 2020, wrote to the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau requesting to be furnished with information concerning investigatio of one Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu, who some people claim is the incumbent President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, being carried out by the CCB.
The letter to the CCB chairman by EFCC signed by Bawa with Ref. No. 3000/EFCC/LS/CMU/TAF/VOL.4/322, referred to another letter from the Commission with Ref no 3000/EFCC/LS/CMU/TAF/VOL.4/337 and Tinubu’s response CCB/HQ/FPOD/WF/1212/11/265, dated 9th October 2020.
CCB was told by Bawa that the request was made pursuant to Section 38(1) and (2) of the EFCC Act 2004.
The belief linked Bawa’s current travails to pay back for the investigation and possibly to retrieve all documents and files relating to the investigation.
It was gathered from insiders that the DSS would be approaching the courts to obtain an order to detain him beyond 48 hours and also to search his residence and offices.
