The Terangha Lions of Senegal recorded Africa’s first win at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar following a 3-1 thumping of hosts Qatar at the Al Thumama Stadium, reports PNO Sports.

The defeat leaves Qatar on the brink of elimination from the competition  after just two games.

The Asians, who are bottom of Group A will be the first nation eliminated from the tournament if the Netherlands avoid defeat against Ecuador later on Friday.

Senegal were on the front right from the start but were frustrated by their  resolute hosts.

Boulaye Dia scored the curtain raiser for the West Africans four minutes before the break.

The African champions took total control of the game three minutes after the break with Famara Diedhiou netting his side’s  second of the game.

Mohammed Muntari pulled one back with an historic first goal at a World Cup finals for Qatar in the 78th minute.

Substitute Ahmadou Dieng restored Senegal’s two-goal lead six minutes from time.
