NPFL: Rangers claim derby win, Abia Warriors beat Remo Stars

Enugu Rangers came back from a goal down to beat oriental rivals Heartland 3-1 in Awka on Saturday, Pnosports.com reports.

The Flying Antelopes regained third position on the table following the win which boosted their chances of picking a continental ticket.

Heartland stunned the hosts on 13 minutes when Monday Yakubu capitalized on Philip Clement’s howler to put the ball into the net.

Ossy Martins pulled the Flying Antelopes level on 22 minutes after Chidiebere Nwobodo was denied at close range by goalkeeper Femi Thomas.

Rangers took the lead for the first time in the game five minutes before the break , with Shedrack Asiegbu capitalizing on a mix-up in the visitors defence to slot the ball into the net.

In the second minute of four added minutes, Rangers sealed the points with the third goal from Eso Archibong.

The Coal City side occupy third position on the table with 45 points from 25 matches.

In another game on Saturday, Abia Warriors defeated Remo Stars 2-0 in Ikenne.

Yakub Hammed curled home a direct free kick to put Abia Warriors ahead in the 61st minute after he was fouled by the edge of the box.

Valentine Odoh headed in Paul Samson’s cross 10 minutes from time to double the lead for the home team.

The eight remaining matchday 27 games will be played on Sunday.
