The Senate has suspended Abdul Ningi, senator representing Bauchi-Central senatorial zone, for making unsubstantiated allegations that the 2024 budget was padded by N3trn.
The Senator was on Tuesday handed a 3-month suspension by his colleagues who said his false statements tarnished the image of the nation’s highest legislative house.
He was also banned from partaking in every other activity of the Senate during the period of the suspension.
In a committee meeting today, the Senate also frowned at the manner in which he deliberately publicised the allegation.
The matter was debated in line with the Standing Order of the Senate during plenary on Tuesday.
He was bo be suspended for a year but pleas by his colleagues mitigated his punishment to three months.
Ningi who who spoke during the session, neither substantiated the allegation nor offered any apology to his colleagues.
He had earlier, even before the plenary, insisted that the allegations he made were correct and the was prepared to carry his cross if suspended.
Immediately the Senate President sounded the gavel after the Senate took the decision, Sen. Ningi picked his books and walked out of the Senate Chambers.
