Tragedy struck in Kano State on Thursday following a late night fire incident which claimed over 20 lives in the Sheka area. The victims were burnt beyond recognition.

Also, another fire incident occurred at Kano Municipal, killing a 35-year-old mother and her three-year-old son while they were asleep.

In a statement, the state Fire Service spokesman, Saminu Abdullahi, who confirmed the incident, said the second fire incident occurred at Gandun Albasa-Bala Barodo in Kano Municipal Local Government Area.

The statement indicated that the service received a distress call from one Ibrahim Ashiru that a five-room bungalow had been razed by fire. It noted that 20 sheep and eight grain silos were also burnt to ashes in Kunchi Local Government Area of the state.

Abdullahi said that the agency received a distress call from one Ibrahim Ashiru that a five-room bungalow of about 75ft by 75ft in dimension was completely razed down.

“When the firefighters arrived at the scene, they rescued the victims unconscious and handed them over to one Inspector Shehu Lawan of Kwali Police Station, who rushed them to the Murtala Hospital, Kano, only to be confirmed dead on arrival by the doctors on duty,” part of the statement read.

He also cautioned residents in the community to be careful in handling inflammable materials.
