Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, at the weekend said he is not perturbed or distracted by the festering political crisis in his home Rivers State, even though seen as a key protagonist in the crisis.
He maintained that his primary objective as FCT minister is to deliver on the mandate given to him by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
He made this known after inspecting some completed projects billed for inauguration by Tinubu for nine days, commencing from 27th of May to 6th of June, as part of activities to mark the president’s one year in office on May 29.
According to him, “I am not distracted. If I am distracted you won’t see this performance here. I focus on my work. I am not interested.
“I am the Minister of FCT. The works are going on. If distracted, how will these works be progressing? I’m not even thinking about it at all”.
Some of the completed projects to be commissioned include the Vice-President’s official residence, Abuja metro rail line project and its access roads, AYA-Area 1 Expressway, Independence Avenue, among others.
Wike also announced that the inauguration of the projects would be followed by the flag-off of new projects, including the construction of bus terminals across the FCT, Court of Appeal Division and other critical projects.
“This is the final inspection as regards the preparedness for the inauguration of various projects.
“From what we have seen, we believe we are ready for the commissioning from 27th of May and will end June 6th. It’s going to be a nine-day long event.
“So, we are happy contractors are meeting up, and all the promises they made are being fulfilled and we have also fulfilled our own part to make sure we have cash backup.
“None of them is complaining in terms of payment,” the minister added.
