Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has resigned to take up his role as Chief of Staff to the President.
His letter of resignation was presented on the floor of the house and read by the speaker, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas.
Channels Television had earlier on Wednesday reported that Gbajabiamila will have to step down, having been appointed to a new portfolio in the executive arm of government.
Concerns emerged as to operate both as a key player in the Executive Arm and in the Legislative Arm since the former Speaker hot inaugurated alongside his colleagues Tuesday and had voted to slect the Speaker and his Deputy.
However, Gbajabiamila, theMember representing Surulere 1 Constituency, Lagos State, tendered his resignation, paving way for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh election to fill the vacancy.
