The Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, Barr. Hannatu Musa Musawa, has denied issuing press statements regarding her status as a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and as a serving minister.
A statement by Suleiman Haruna, Deputy Director, Press, Federal Ministry of Information, quoted Musawa as saying that “the piece is inaccurately associated with her in relation to the current NYSC discussion”.
According to him, the publications regarding the aforementioned matter did not emanate from her and asks the public to be cautious of unverified information.
The statement titled: STATEMENT FROM BARR. HANNATU MUSA MUSAWA, HON. MINISTER OF ART, CULTURE AND CREATIVE ECONOMY, reads:
“The attention of Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, Hon. Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, has been drawn to a recently circulating piece titled:
“MY PERSONAL STATEMENT ON MY NYSC STATUS AS A SERVING MINISTER. The piece is inaccurately associated with her in relation to the current NYSC discussion.
“The Hon. Minister clarifies that she has not released any official statement regarding the aforementioned matter and kindly asks the public to be cautious of unverified information.
“I deeply value and appreciate the support, solidarity, and understanding of Nigerians in these times.
“For clarity, I wish to state that I have not issued any statement on the current issue.”

Recall that On Hannatu Musa
Recall that the Supreme Court has ruled on the case of Abdulkadir Modibbo’s election (APC) in Adamawa the Court nullified his election because he won as a serving Youth Corps member.
The Apex court in deciding on the matter and awarding victory to Jafar Suleiman of the PDP who came second in the election noted that Moddibo was a serving NYSC Member at the time he contested the election.
A five-member panel of the Court led by Justice Ejembi Eko directed INEC to issue certificate of return to the declared winner.
At the high court, it was argued and contested that Mr. Modibbo did not qualify to be nominated as a candidate for the APC because he was yet to complete his National Youth Service Corp and was still a serving NYSC Member.
Several sections of the NYSC Act including Sections 13 and 30 of the NYSC Act, including Section 315 (5) (a) of the Constitution specifies how compulsory it is for Nigerian graduates with HND and above to be enrolled for the NYSC.
