A total of 5,600 students of the Nigerian College of Accountancy in Kwall, Plateau State, will on Saturday be certified as accountants as the institution’s 11th combined convocation scheduled for 24th and 25th of January, 2025.
Also, 12 students out of the 5,600 of them have bagged distinction award, and will be awarded at the convocation ceremony.
Speaking at a pre-convocation press briefing at the college on Thursday, the Director General of the college, Dr Friday Effiong Akpan explained that the graduating accountants have have duly completed their training programmes for the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 sessions, and that they graduated officially in August 2023.
The Director General stressed that the college’s commitment to producing well-rounded, skilled, and ethically conscious professionals who can make a positive impact in the accounting profession cannot be overemphasized, adding that they are deeply committed it be the college has the potential of advancing such to boost the economic growth of the nation.
According to him, the importance of the college is also vast as it stimulates innovation, particularly in the face of emerging challenges posed by technology and digitalization.
According to Dr. Akpan, the college has been at the forefront of accounting education in Nigeria, offering a range of programs designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to succeed in the profession.
“With its strong focus on academic excellence, innovation, and ethical conduct, the college is poised to continue producing graduates who can make a meaningful difference in the accounting profession.
“The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) Act 76 of 1993 charges the Association, among others, with the duty of advancing the Science of Accountancy in Nigeria
“The Nigerian College of Accountancy, Kwall near Jos, the training arm of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) is pivotal to advancing the science of Accountancy.
“It is pertinent that the ANAN Act 76 Section 8 (1d) specifically recognizes the Nigerian College of Accountancy and Training Arm of ANAN 26 an indispensable tool in the pursuit of excellence in Professional Accounting Education and Training
“The establishment of the ANAN College, which is first in Nigeria and third globally has transformed very radically and positively the way Professional Accountants are mid-wived. Also dignity, integrity and respect have been brought to bear on the Accountancy Profession.
“Since 1984/85 school session when the College first opened its doors to students to the current 2024/2025 school sension, the Nigerian College of Accountancy has grown in leaps and bounds.
“The Nigerian College of Accountancy which started in 1984/85 session with a very low students’ intake of 10 has in recent school sessions boast of about 4,000 students,” he said.
Furthermore, he pointed out that the ANAN College has since moved from its temporary sites at Barkin Ladi LGA, Plateau State and Jos North LGA to its permanent Site at Kwall, Bassa LGA, Near Jos, Plateau State, stressing that as the college celebrates its 11 Convocation, it seizes the opportunity to underline the fact that courses of study and conditions are carefully crafted to ensure its graduates are well rounded and blended professionals, vast in knowledge, skilled and very committed to the highest ideals of ethical conduct.
“The 11 Convocation marks the production of another set of skilled and knowledgeable professional Accountants-to-be who will continue to push further the frontiers of the new dispensational move in the development of Accountancy practice in Nigeria and beyond.
