President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered appointees and members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) intending to contest elective offices in 2023 elections to resign not later than Monday (May 16th, 2022).
Those affected are Ministers of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio; Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige; Science, Technology and Innovation, Ogbonnaya Onu;
Others are Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva; Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba; who have all joined the presidential race on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Also on the list are the Minister of State Mines and Steel, Uche Ogar, who is running for governorship position in Abia State; Minister of Women Affairs, Paulline Tallen, who declared her ambition to contest for the senatorial seat in Plateau State; and Minsiter of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, who is gunningbfor governorship in Kebbi State.
The presidential directive was handed to the cabinet members during Wednesdays FEC meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, while briefing State House Correspondents at the end of FEC presided over by President Buhari.
