The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced the arrest of 15 suspects fingered in the killing and burning of private security personnel, Ahmad Usman, on Saturday in Abuja.
Usman, a 30-year-old resident of Lugbe one of the suburbs in Abuja, was stoned to death and burnt by a mob over alleged blasphemous comment against Prophet Muhammed and Allah, in the Lugbe area of the country’s capital city.
Up till now, nobody has come up with the exact statements he made which the mob considered blasphemous.
This is why some other persons say, he might have been killed by criminal elements due to his strict application of rules, but dubbed blasphemous in order to easily avenge for not allowing them carry out crimes they wanted to carry out against peoples wares in the market.
The FCT Police Command, in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, CSP Josephine Adeh, announced the arrest and detention of some suspects linked to the killing.
She said: “The FCT Police Command has arrested 15 suspects in connection with the violence and killing of the late Ahmad Usman, a member of a vigilante group, in the Lugbe Area of the FCT on June 4, 2022”.
“The arrest of the suspects follows on-going investigations into the unfortunate incident and circumstances that led to the killing of the 30-year-old Usman”.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Babaji Sunday, also assured that the Command would get to the root of the matter and bring all the perpetrators to face justice.
Babaji, while appealing for calm, added, “we assure that the Command would get to the root of the matter and bring all the perpetrators to book.
“We, therefore, reiterate that justice would be served in the matter.”
