A leader in Zamfara state, Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, Monday, described the recent video clip released by the notorious bandit kingpin, Bello Turji, of rendering towns and villages in Sokoto and Zamfara states helpless.
He said the video incident need proactive measures by the federal government.
Dr. Shinkafi made the pronouncement while addressing newsmen in Gusau.
On Wednesday, notorious bandit Bello Turji released a video clip asking security agents to release his cousin, one Bello Wurge, who was arrested on hospital bed at Shinkafi General Hospital.
The notorious Turji in his video clip threatened to launch incessant attacks of towns and villages within Shinkafi, Zurmi in Zamfara and Isa communities in Sokoto state.
Dr. Abdullahi Shinkafi lamented that Turji in the clip promised to revive kidnapping of the inhabitants of the areas of Zamfara and Sokoto states for ransom.
Shinkafi, a former APGA national secretary and gubernatorial candidate in Zamfara state described the Turji’s threat as calamity which raised tension in the areas as villagers have started migrating to some major towns for their safety.
He said more than 48 villages under Shinkafi local government were now deserted in fear of the resurgence of Turji’s incessant attacks.
He appealed to the critical stakeholders in Sokoto and Zamfara states to form coalition to meet President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the matter for his intervention.
He urged all stakeholders in the state to form a committee with a view to meet President Tinubu for prompt action on the matter.
“Mr. President, Bola Tinubu and governors of Zamfara and Sokoto states ought to act now as failure to do so, many towns and villages will cease to exist because Turji would make good his promise,” stated.
The party chieftain described conspiracy of allowing notorious bandits moving freely on the side of security agencies as a slap to Nigerian military.
He urged military to act appropriately to clear the bandits in the areas.
He lamented that more than 85% of the farmland in Zamfara was not cultivated this rainy season because of acts of banditry in Zamfara state.
