*As denial fuels kidnappings, banditry

Dr. Dan Shere, a former Secretary to the Enugu State Government, has allegedly been set free.

Dr. Shere was abducted on Thursday along with other road users and passengers.

Also ssid to have been released were a number of University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), students who were equally kidnapped along the Ugwogo/Opi by-pass.

However, Shere and the other captives were ssid to have been rescued on Saturday evening, which caused excitement throughout Nsukka and environs.

There were celebrations in his home town in Nsukka Saturday.

Heavy ransom was believed to have been paid for his release but the amount is still top secret.

Recall that last Thursday, the Governor of Enugu State, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, alongside the General Officer Commanding 82 Division, Nigerian Army, the Commissioner of Police and State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) visited black spots along the Opi/Ugwogo Road where herdsmen had allegedly kidnapped several people.

Other black spots in Enugu include old 9th Mile/Opi expressway; 9th Mile/Oghe/Aguobu-Owa/Iwollo/Olo road; Enugu/Lokpanta axis of the Enugu/Aba expressway; 9th Mile/Udi road as well as Eke/Affa road.

In spite of cries and complaint by people in various parts of the country, pastoral animal husbandry which is seen as the percusor to kidnappings and banditry in the country is still being encouraged by the Federal Government.

Apart from the Benue and Ondo state governors who have been shouting hoarse and pointing accusing fingers on cow and other pastoralists, other governor prefer to embark on self preservation, a political move that has caused pain, death and anguish on their people.
