The presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP)Mr. Peter Obi, Thursday, visited victims of the flood disaster and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at Daudu Camp in Benue state.

Obi also toured some flood disaster areas for an on-the-spot assessment of the damage caused by the flood.

While addressing the people, Obi said the flood disaster ordinarily was what could have been controlled but unfortunately it has been left unattended to over the years.

He expressed worry that most people have lost everything in the flood, noting that if adequate measures were taken by the federal government the disaster could have been averted.

“You can imaging the pain these people are going through. Where I am now, I was informed that a woman have lost her husband and when she is struggling on how to bury him, she is again faced with the issue of flood.

“I was at the IDPs camp and I saw them living in a very difficult situation. It is disheartening that a state is left to manage such huge and difficult humanitarian situation.

“It is a huge loss to Benue and it is a huge loss to Nigeria as a country.

“This is because, this are the people who would have been home and would have been going to farm to produce food for this country.

“This is the situation we have to solve and solve immediately. I hear you shout Obidient and with Obidient, this kind of thing will never occur in Nigeria.

“This problem is not beyond our capability to solve and I believe that it will be adequately tackled and we need things in this country to work as quickly as possible.

“We need to start doing everything possible to ensure that terrorism in the country and this flood does not happen again,” he added.

Ter Makurdi Chief Vincent Aule while speaking said Obi is the first candidate that has ever shown concern about the flood victims in Benue state.

He described him as a good man, and a worthy Nigerian  whose ambition will be crowned with victory in the 2023 election noting that God will be with him, bless him and ensure that he achieve his desired ambition.

Secretary to the Benue State Government (SSG) Tony Ijohor SAN who represented Governor Samuel Ortom, said the gesture by Obi showed that he is someone who cared for the suffering masses.
