In an effort to lay to rest the issue of zoning which has heated the political atmosphere ahead of 2023 general election, the zoning committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has assured that the committee will provide a level playing ground for all the aspirants.

Briefing newsmen at the end of its meeting on Tuesday in Abuja, the Chairman of the Committee, Dr Samuel Ortom, said that the committee is determined to put the party first in whatever decision it will take at the end of the party.

“The meeting was peaceful without any tension, “the meeting is yet to be concluded. We have adjourned till Tuesday next week at the same time, at the same venue. And until we conclude the proceedings, there is not much to say. So far, all the members are quite understanding. There wasn’t any form of tension.”

“All the members understand ourselves that zoning is very key and we are looking at it that at the end of it all, we will do something that everybody will accept and we will go ahead as one big family and win the 2023 elections.”

Earlier, a pressure group within the Peoples Democratic Party known as PDP Justice and Equity group, has advised that the presidential ticket of the party should not be zoned to any part of the country.

The group in a memo signed on its behalf by Eng  Hon  Ahmed Muhktar, Hon Yemi Arokodare and Barrister Chima Ndugbu and sent to the Chairman of PDP zoning committee, Gov. Samuel Ortom of Benue State said that the ticket should be an open race where members of the party from both the north and south of the country are free to aspire to the office of the president of Nigeria.

The zoning committee is made up of 37 members drawn from the 36 states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
