*Decries shooting, killing of NDC members by APC supporters

The Nigeria democratic Congress (NDC), has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), is unleashing violence in Enugu State, causing fears, intimidation and chaos across the state targeting the opposition, particularly, the NDC supporters.

The party, through the Peter Obi Modes Relations (POMR) lamented that thugs and hired assassins operating on the instruction of the state government, killed some of its supporters and inflicted gun shot wounds on several others while the ADC members while they were at the state ADC secretariat for the commissioning ceremony.

Explaining its stand on the Enugu situation, the NDC in a statement on Sunday, through the spokesman of the POMR, Idris Zekeri Jnr, called on the authorities to establish who ordered, funded, enabled, or carried out these acts and ensure that everyone found culpable is prosecuted according to the law.

”The ballot must never become a battleground, nor must justice be sacrificed to political power,” the POMR warned.

The Obi Media Office while condemning the development, stated that, “violence, intimidation, and the killing of citizens cannot substitute for competent governance”.

Rejecting recent state of political anrchy in Enugu State ahead of the 2027 general elections, NDC said, “the persistent reports of intimidation of NDC members in Enugu State are unacceptable and must be unequivocally condemned”.

They condemned increasing political violence in Enugu demanding “an immediate and comprehensive investigation rather than excuses, unchecked denials, or political concealment”.

The party further called on the relevant electoral and law enforcement authorities to “take preventive action against political violence, protect opposition candidates and supporters, and ensure that Nigerians can participate in the democratic process without fear”.

POMR challenged the security agencies to investigate all credible allegations of politically motivated killings, threats, and attacks in Enugu State impartially and without fear or favour.

The party also insisted on accountability at every level, maintaining that, “victims and their families deserve justice, while the public deserves clear and transparent answers”.

The party reminded that “serving elected and appointed public office holders their offices, must never shield them from justice, and political affiliation must never determine whose life is valued or who is held accountable for a crime.

“No governor is above the law, no political party owns the state, and no political aspiration can justify the loss of even one Nigerian life,” the NDC stressed.

“Everyone responsible for political violence must be held accountable, regardless of office, influence, or power.

“Attempts to intimidate the opposition must be resisted through lawful, peaceful, and democratic means.

“Nigerians will not surrender their constitutional rights in the face of threats and violence. Democracy belongs to the people, not to those who seek power through fear,” NDC stated.
