The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the final lists of candidates contesting for various elective offices in Nigeria’s 2027 general election, covering the Presidential, National Assembly, Governorship and State Houses of Assembly contestants.
The publication was made available to the public on Saturday, October 10, 2026, thus, completing the climax in the Commission’s preparations for the forthcoming polls.
Recall that the Presidential and National Assembly lists were released in September, while the final publication of Governorship and State Houses of Assembly candidates was scheduled for October 10.
The Presidential list made available to the media by INEC contains 18 candidates and their running mates, while the National Assembly lists feature 4,408 candidates, comprising 1,195 senatorial and 3,213 House of Representatives candidates.
Among the presidential candidates are President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC); former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC); former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC); the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM); Sandy Ojang Onor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
Other candidates include Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC); Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and candidates representing other registered political parties.
The presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will take place on February 6, 2027.
