Anxiety has gripped Nigerians in the United States following the release of an updated list by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) containing the names and photographs of 112 Nigerians facing removal from the country.

The latest list, published on the official DHS website, contains Nigerians from different parts of the country whose cases have been identified by US immigration authorities for removal.

Among those listed are Cletus Onyali, Olaolu Alabi, Marcus Unigwe, Mkpouto Etukudoh, Blessing Uchanma, Olaniyi Ojikutu, Richard Ugbah, Oluwamuyiwa Olawoye, Anthony Asanya and Ebele Agbasiele.

Others identified in the publication include Izuchukwu Okoye, Olufemi Olufisayo Olutiola, Abiemwense Obanor, Chibuzo Nwaonu, Oluchi Jennifer Chimdimma Chime, Ifeanyi Okoro, Oluwaseun Kassim, Quazeem Adeyinka and Talatu Dada.

The complete publication contains 112 names, with photographs and other details of the individuals available through the DHS online portal.

The disclosure comes amid intensified immigration enforcement by the US government, particularly against undocumented immigrants and individuals with outstanding removal orders.

The development has also drawn attention to the growing efforts by US authorities to secure the cooperation of foreign governments in receiving their nationals who have been ordered to leave the country.

Nigeria has previously faced pressure from the US over the repatriation of its nationals subject to deportation, with immigration enforcement and the return of individuals with final removal orders remaining issues in US-Nigeria relations.

The publication of the names and photographs represents a significant step in making publicly accessible the identities of Nigerians currently identified by DHS for removal.

However, the listing of an individual on a DHS removal list does not, on its own, provide the full circumstances surrounding the person’s immigration case. Details of individual cases, including the basis for removal and the status of any legal proceedings or appeals, would depend on the records of the respective immigration authorities and courts.

The updated list has therefore heightened public interest in the status of Nigerians facing removal proceedings in the United States, particularly as Washington continues its broader immigration enforcement efforts.
