The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has accused an aide to the Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, of leading what he described as “government-sponsored thugs” who blocked his motorcade during a visit to the state.
Obi, in a telephone conversation with newsmen on Tuesday, said the incident occurred while he was travelling to commiserate with families and communities affected by recent terrorist attacks in Benue.
The former Anambra State governor said he had intended to visit families of more than 200 victims of recent attacks, but his convoy was prevented from proceeding by a mob which blocked the road.
