National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has urged Nigerians, particularly supporters of the party, to vote massively and protect their votes in the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
Mark made the call in Osogbo, Osun State, while handing over the party’s flag to its governorship candidate, Hon. Najeem Salaam, ahead of the election scheduled for Saturday.
In statement by his media aide, Kola Ologbodiyan, The ADC national chairman charged party supporters to remain vigilant and resist any attempt to manipulate the electoral process or subvert the will of the electorate.
He urged them not only to cast their votes but also to ensure that the votes are properly protected and counted.
“You must not allow yourselves to be rigged out of this election. You have demonstrated your ability, capacity and determination to win this election.
“You must therefore prepare to defend the votes you cast. Don’t allow your votes to be taken away from you,” Mark said.
He urged the party’s supporters to remain organised, committed and determined as the ADC intensifies its mobilisation ahead of the poll.
Mark’s call came as political parties intensified their final campaigns ahead of the August 15 governorship election, with candidates and their supporters seeking to secure the backing of voters across the state.
Also speaking at the event, ADC presidential candidate and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, said some of the country’s experienced political leaders and professionals had come together under the platform of the ADC.
Atiku said the party possessed the capacity, competence and vision required to transform Nigeria and improve the welfare of Nigerians if given the opportunity to govern.
He urged Nigerians to support the ADC, expressing confidence that the party’s leadership and professionals could provide purposeful governance and address the challenges confronting the country.
