A serving Nigerian Army Military Intelligence officer, Colonel Abdussalam A. Ude, was reportedly shot dead after resisting an apparent abduction attempt at his residence in Kurudu District, Abuja (Federal Capital Territory).
According to security sources, the attack occurred on Monday, 27 July 2026, shortly after the senior officer returned home from work. Armed gunmen allegedly attempted to abduct him, but Colonel Ude reportedly resisted despite being heavily outnumbered. He was subsequently shot multiple times at close range and died at the scene.
During the attack, the assailants also opened fire on members of his household, leaving his wife, driver, and security guard with varying degrees of gunshot injuries. The victims were rushed to hospital and are currently receiving medical treatment.
Colonel Ude, an indigene of Enugu State, was a respected military intelligence and counter-terrorism officer who had served in several strategic national security assignments. Reports indicate he was due for promotion to the rank of Brigadier General next year.
Security agencies have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the attack and to identify and apprehend those responsible. No arrests have been announced as of the time of this report.
