A governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State, Adamu Usman Ahmed, has declared that no governor has successfully imposed a successor in the state’s political history, expressing confidence that the ruling establishment will be defeated in the 2027 governorship election.
Ahmed made the assertion on Wednesday night in Abuja while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of a grand reception organised by the PDP Youth Leader, Amb. Ibrahim Bala-Aboki, in honour of the party’s National Chairman, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed.
The PDP governorship hopeful said the people of Bauchi State have consistently demonstrated political independence and are unlikely to endorse any attempt by the incumbent governor, Bala Mohammed, to determine his successor.
“The people of Bauchi are always wise and, from the history of the state, there has never been a governor who was able to install a successor.
“The chances are clear, and the coast is clear for the opposition to win,” Ahmed said.
Commenting on the reception organised in honour of the PDP National Chairman, Ahmed described it as an encouragement to young people and a demonstration of the party’s commitment to creating opportunities for youth participation in politics.
“This is a very good encouragement for the youth, which we should all follow. As a very good party, it is providing an opportunity for us to have the chances to move towards building a better nation,” he said.
On his prospects in the governorship race, Ahmed noted that the political landscape ahead of the 2027 election differs significantly from previous contests, pointing out that multiple political parties would be fielding candidates.
“The dynamics of politics are very different nowadays, especially in the 2027 elections. Usually, the trend has been a two-horse race between the ruling party and the opposition. But this election will feature at least seven candidates from different political parties, and that is my added advantage,” he stated.
The aspirant also described the PDP as the most stable political party in Nigeria, arguing that many rival parties are grappling with internal crises arising from their primary elections.
“PDP is the only stable party in Nigeria because many other parties are enmeshed in deep political crises. After their primaries, there have been lots of defections, and many people are coming back to us,” he said.
According to him, even individuals currently serving in government are considering joining the PDP because of the party’s perceived stability and electoral prospects.
Ahmed further appealed to young Nigerians to actively participate in the political process, saying young leaders must work to restore confidence in governance and democratic institutions.
“We are all youths, and we are presenting ourselves as potential candidates to help restore the confidence that young people have lost in the political system,” he said.
Outlining his priorities if elected governor, Ahmed said his administration would focus primarily on job creation to address unemployment and social challenges affecting young people.
“The major target of my government will be job creation because that is what is causing a lot of social crises, and the youth are bearing the consequences,” he added.
So once we have this job creation, I believe that will cater for the unrest and social crisis that are affecting our economy.
