The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed claims of leadership crisis within its ranks, insisting that the party remains united and fully operational following the recent Supreme Court judgment.
Recall that Sen. Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the Tanimu Turaki faction on Thursday, claimed the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) has taken over the affairs of the party following a Supreme Court Judgement that quashed the National Convention held on 15 – 16th November, 2025 and further upheld the ruling of the Court of Appeal that recognised the suspension of some of the party officers including the National Secretary, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu and Legal Adviser, Alhaji Kamaldeen Ajibade.
Addressing journalists at a press conference held on Friday, at the party’s national Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, the National Publicity Secretary of the Nyesom Wike-led favtion, Jugundo Mohammed countered Sen. Wabara, the ruling of April 30th only nullified what it described as an “illegal” Ibadan convention and dismissed an appeal filed by a rival group.
He said: “The Supreme Court judgment only nullified the illegal Ibadan ‘Convention’ and dismissed the appeal filed by the Turaki-led purported National Working Committee for lacking in merit”.
The PDP accused Sen. Kabiru Turaki and his associates of distorting the court’s decision, stressing that the judgment did not address or validate any suspension or expulsion of party.
“The issue of suspension or expulsion was never before any court,” the party said, adding that “throughout the judgment, there was no mention whatsoever of such matters.”
Reaffirming its leadership structure, the party maintained that there was no vacuum in its administration.
It declared that its National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and National Secretary, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, remain duly recognised.
“There has never been a vacuum or absence of leadership in our party,” the statement noted.
The PDP further stated that certain individuals were attempting to destabilise the party by misrepresenting the court judgement, adding that what it described as unlawful activities.
On claims that the BoT took over the party’s leadership, Mohammed said “such assertions were unfounded and not supported by our constitution”.
He also rejected statements attributed to Adolphus Wabara, insisting that the legitimate leadership of the BoT is under Hon. Mao Ohuabunwa.
The party urged the public and media to disregard what it called “propaganda” and avoid portraying the PDP as factionalised.
“We wish to reiterate that there are no factions in the PDP,” Mohammed stressed.
The PDP also criticised comments by media personality Reuben Abati, accusing him of advancing a “false narrative” about the party’s leadership without access to the court judgment.
The party called on commentators and media organisations to exercise professionalism and rely on verified information when reporting on its affairs.
