The South-East Development Commission (SEDC) has concluded the first phase of its South East Venture Capital Programme (SEVCP) Pitch Competition, shortlisting 210 startups from over 1,200 applications across the region.
Breakdown of the shortlisted candidates shows that 128 startups qualified under the Incubator Track, while 82 advanced in the Accelerator Track.
The Commission said the development underscores its commitment to fostering technology-driven enterprises and scaling high-potential ventures within the South East.
According to SEDC, the large volume and quality of applications received highlight the growing depth of entrepreneurial activity in the region.
The selection process, it noted, was rigorous. Startups were initially screened for regional ties, presence of a clear technology component, and adherence to submission guidelines. They were subsequently evaluated based on problem-solution fit, execution capacity, market opportunity, and technological innovation.
For more advanced startups, traction and revenue generation were key determinants, while early-stage ventures were assessed on validation and evidence of emerging demand.
The shortlisted startups will now proceed to the video pitch stage, which the Commission said will provide deeper insight into founders’ capabilities, strategic thinking, and readiness for execution.
The competition will culminate in a grand finale scheduled for May 25, 2026, where selected startups will pitch before investors, operators, policymakers, and other key stakeholders.
An investment ceremony will follow on May 26, during which successful startups are expected to receive funding and gain access to structured support under the SEVCP.
Reaffirming its commitment to strengthening the regional innovation ecosystem, the Commission said it remains focused on building a pipeline of investable ventures.
