A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Buba Galadima, has launched a scathing attack on the administration of Bola Tinubu, declaring that the ruling party would face overwhelming rejection in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the ADC National Convention in Abuja on Tuesday, Galadima alleged that opposition parties were being systematically suppressed, warning that such actions could undermine Nigeria’s democratic space.
Galadima accused the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) of attempting to weaken opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP) and others.
In one of the most striking moments of his speech, he predicted a crushing defeat for President Tinubu in the next election.
“Even if there is no living human being in Nigeria and we bring a corpse in a coffin and put it against President Tinubu, I assure you that that corpse will win the election in 2027,” he said.
He called on opposition members to remain resolute, stressing that “resilience, boldness, and courage” would be key to resisting what he described as intimidation by those in power.
Galadimma who was a founding member of APC and the force behind the emergence of late President Muhammadu Buhari also in a fiery address, claimed that the convention earlier faced last-minute disruption, alleging that the venue was nearly withdrawn under pressure from authorities.
“Yesterday around 1 a.m., we got a message that this venue that was acquired for this convention was actually cancelled because the owner was threatened… that if he allows us to be here, they will revoke his certificate of occupancy,” he said.
According to him, despite the alleged intimidation, party leaders resolved to proceed with the event.
“My opinion was simply that even if Abuja will burn to ashes today, we will hold this convention in this hall. And so we did,” Galadimma declared, describing the development as a “test of resilience” for the party.
He warned that such incidents could escalate, suggesting that opposition parties might face further restrictions as the 2027 elections approach.
“They may not even allow us to campaign in Nigeria. So it is important that nobody in this country should set the pace on how our political behaviour should be. We must assert ourselves whether they like it or not,” he added.
