The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has firmly ruled out any merger or coalition with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or any other political platform, declaring it remains a strong and independent opposition force ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This position was made clear Tuesday by PDP National Chairman Hon. Abdulrahman Muhammed during the inaugural meeting of the new National Working Committee (NWC) at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.

Muhammed said the party emerged from a turbulent period of internal disputes and legal battles stronger and more united, noting that the challenges tested but ultimately reinforced the PDP’s institutional resilience.

“What we have witnessed in recent months is not merely a resolution of disputes, but the triumph of institutional resilience over uncertainty, and of collective conviction over division,” he said.

He added that the PDP leadership question had now been conclusively settled, with the Independent National Electoral Commission formally recognizing and uploading the names of the party’s national officers to its official portal.

According to him, “The era of uncertainty is behind us, and the PDP is once again firmly anchored on a foundation of legality and order.”

The PDP chairman also dismissed speculation about a possible alliance with the ADC, stressing that the party has no intention of entering into any merger discussions.

“We wish to state unequivocally that the PDP is not engaged in any merger or coalition discussions with the African Democratic Congress or with any other political party in Nigeria,” Muhammed declared.

He described claims by Taminu Turaki suggesting ongoing coalition talks as “misleading and unfounded,” accusing those behind such statements of attempting to misinform the public and undermine the party’s credibility.

Muhammed warned that the party would not hesitate to take legal action against individuals spreading false narratives capable of bringing the PDP into disrepute.

The chairman also commended security agencies for their role in maintaining order during the party’s recent internal crisis, particularly their intervention in restoring access to the party’s national secretariat.

Looking ahead, he said the PDP was undergoing strategic repositioning and would soon unveil initiatives to strengthen its structures and offer Nigerians a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

“As we look towards 2027, we assure Nigerians that the PDP will present ideas, leadership, and solutions that reflect the true aspirations of our people,” he said.

Reaffirming confidence in the party’s future, Muhammed declared: “The PDP is back, stronger than ever, and ready to lead.”
