Bandits have kidnapped over 150 people in a midnight attack on villages in Bukkuyum local government council of Zamfara state.

Residents said several villages were raided, forcing hundreds to flee for their lives.

The lawmaker representing Gumi and Bukkuyum Federal Constituency, Hon. Sulaiman Abubakar Gumi, confirmed the incident, saying that residents of Kurfa Danya and Kurfan Magaji villages spent the night in fear.

Report indicated that Villagers have abandoned their homes, seeking refuge in Bukuyyum town.

The area has, for a long time now, faced recurrent challenges of banditry and kidnapping for ransom.

Gumi, who lamented about the ugly development, urged the federal government to focus attention on addressing Zamfara’s security challenges.

The lawmaker who highlighted the government’s efforts on Borno amid Boko Haram threats, emphasised has called for an urgent need to also prioritise Zamfara’s pressing security problems.

All efforts to reach the state police command’s public relations officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, on the matter proved abortive by our correspondent while compiling this report.
