Suspected bandits have bombed a bridge on Luma road, connecting Luma-Babana-Agwara communities in Borgu Local Government area of Niger State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, cutting off movement in the affected areas.

According to sources, the Babanna major border market that holds every Monday was crippled due to the incident.

However, Borgu and Agwara Local Government Areas of Niger have been under severe attacks for several months with terrorists attacking the communities.

It was also gathered that between Nuku and Woro, a vehicle hit an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by terrorists between Nuku and Woro, killing all occupants onboard.

The spokesman for the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the bombing of the bridge and said a clearance operation was ongoing.

According to him, the command on Tuesday at about 6.30 am, received a report about the incident.

“Suspected terrorists within the Park Forest used an explosive device and bombed a bridge located along Luma road, Borgu LGA, connecting Luma-Babana-Agwara communities.

“It was discovered that the bridge was damaged by the hoodlums during security operations in the area.

“However, monitoring continues while clearance operation is intensified,” he said.(NAN)
