The Nigerian Army has confirmed that two soldiers were killed alongside two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force CJTF in an ambush by Boko Haram along the Biu–Wajiroko axis in Borno State.The attack 

occurred on Friday as troops were returning from a clearance operation, resulting in the death of two CJTF personnel attached to the military formation.

In a statement, Lt Col Appolonia Anele said troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade, who were on routine patrol to secure communities in the Wajiroko area of Azir Multe, Damboa Local Government Area, came under sudden and heavy fire from insurgents.

She stated that the troops were returning from a patrol led by Brigadier General M. Uba, Commander of the 25 Task Force Brigade, when the ambush occurred.

According to the statement, the soldiers, supported by CJTF members, responded with coordinated firepower and forced the attackers to withdraw.

‘During the encounter, two soldiers and two CJTF members paid the supreme price while on active service to the nation,’ Lt Col Anele said.

She added that the Army High Command condoled with the families of the deceased personnel and commended the troops for their response during the attack.

The Army also dismissed reports circulating online alleging that the Brigade Commander was abducted during the incident.

‘The general public is advised to disregard the fake news regarding the incident,’ the statement said.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, was quoted as saluting the courage and commitment of troops operating in the theatre.
