*Wants IGP to interrogate, punish FCT-CP, apprehend thugs that invaded the secretariat
The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have reported alleged acts of “forceful takeover, threat to
life, assault of Staff and disruption of peaceful conduct of party affairs”, to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, asking him to apprehend and prosecute the people responsible.
The party took the decision after thugs allegedly led by a faction of the party led by Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, reportedly took over the party activities, brutalised some staff members and broke into the office of the National Chairman, installing the National Chairman Vice-Chairman (North-Central), Mohammed Abdulrahman as the acting national Chairman.
The petition, signed by Damagum, accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ezenwo Nyesom Wike of providing the other faction backing to do what they allegedly did.
The petition reads: “This is to formally report to the Inspector General of Police the forceful takeover, threat to life, assault of Staff and disruption of peaceful conduct of party affairs by the suspended National Sectary of the PDP, Senator Samuel Anyanwu with the assistance of the, suspended Deputy National Legal Adviser, Barr. Okechukwu Osuoha, the National Vice- Chairman (North-Central) Mohammed Abdulrahman with the backing of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr Nyesom Wike.
“The IG may please note that the National Working Committee (NWC) of our Party at its 608th
Meeting considered the anti-party activities of the suspended National Secretary, Sen. Anyanwu, the National Organizing Secretary, Hon. Umar Bature, the National Legal Adviser, Barr Kamaldeen Ajibade and Barr. Okechukwu Osuaha, and, pursuant to the provisions of Constitution of the PDP (As Amended in 2017) suspended the four officers for a period of 30 days and referred them to the National Disciplinary Committee.
“To our utmost surprise and shock, on Monday, November 3rd, 2025, the suspended Sen. Samuel Anyanwu violently invaded the National Secretariat of our Party, with thugs mobilized by his Personal Aides Arthur Bruno, Emmanuel Okoronkwo and one Chidiebere Egwu brandishing dangerous weapons including guns, knives, cutlasses and sticks with which they broke into offices, unleashed violence, attacked, fired tear gas, wounded our staff, assaulted journalists and disrupted activities in our National Secretariat.
“A female staff who could not withstand the teargas suffocated and was later resuscitated.
“The thugs forcefully broke into the office of the National Chairman and attempted to install the said Abdutrahman Mohammed as the acting National Chairman of our Party.
“Currently, three of the staff are in the hospital receiving treatments for various degrees of injuries inflicted on them by the thugs.
“The staff in the hospital are: Mr. Terna Tergba, Mrs. Cecilia Ukwayi and Innocent Ezekiel.
“The armed thugs led by Emmanuel Okoronkwo in company of armed police officers went around the offices of members of the National Working Committee (NWC) where they also assaulted those present in the building.
“The thugs also openly threatened to kill some members of our NW and staff while boasting that they have the backing of the FCT Minister and that the Police and Security Agencies cannot do anything to them.
“Also, staff reported hearing Senator Anyanwu speaking to the Commissioner of Police, FCT
Command assuring his aides that the CP and the FCT Minister are with them.
“The failure of the Police to take immediate action to disperse the thugs lend credence to this report.
The role of the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, regarding this attack should be called to question.
“On whose instruction did he as an officer of the Law deploy security
personnel to the National Secretariat of a political party without notifying the National
Chairman of the Party?
“Why on earth will the police teargas staff who are performing their legitimate duties in the office?
“What is the role of the Minister of FCT in deploying the Commissioner of Police to assault and intimidate staff of the Secretariat?
“As a law-abiding political party, we are disturbed by this unprofessional conduct of the
Commission of Police, FCT Command, being under the instructions of the Minister of the
FCT.
“The Police should hold the FCT Minister, FCT Police Commissioner, Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Abdulrahman Mohammed directly responsible and culpable for this breach of peace in the FCT, threat to life, assault on innocent citizens, and disruption of lawful activities of a political party.
“The IG may please note that our Country is currently under the scope of the International
Community and this unwarranted assault on the opposition party along with its staff which is a clear threat to democracy in Nigeria further aggravate a very tensed situation.
“Please find attached numerous evidence both in Pictures and videos.
“While thanking you for your continuous efforts in ensuring security of our dear nation, please
accept the assurances of the NWC’s highest regards.
“HE. Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum, National Chairman”.
