18-year old 300-level Godfrey Okoye University Computer Science student, Chinazom Maximilian Udeh, aka Maxcee, is taking the university community spell-bound with his musical genre, which is reverberating even beyond the university environment, up to Enugu city, the state, FCT and has taken its hold on Instagram, YouTube and other social media platforms.
Although music is not new to the Udeh family of Onicha Amokwe, Udi LGA , Enugu State, his father having been a part-time Disc Jockey (DJ) and his mother participating in traditional dance troupes, Maxcee simply upgraded the family skills. Even before he got to this level, his elder brothers were into music in different forms, even internationally both in traditional musical genres and also sang at church choirs. Aside from these, some other members of the extended family were and are still equally into music, though not in the scale Chinazom has skilled up to.
Because it is a skill running in the family which he vowed to sustain, the Wizkid back in his secondary school training at KingsVille Secondary School, Abuja, was the Chapel Prefect and had won the “Master KingsVille” title to the admiration of his family and friends.
Even while in primary school, he had cultivated this knack of not wasting his spare time, as he would usually use such spare time to sing in his room, away from his parents and siblings, who upon noticing this talent, would pry, without interference, but praying for God to crystallise this talents and generally praying that God’s will be done. Even when he gained admission into University and would stay away in a solitary places singing and practicing at his spare moments, the GOU management, noted for its astute discipline for staff and students, never considered his love for music an aberration, but silently encouraged him to trudge on.
According to his father, High Chief ESV. Kennedy Udeh, “we didn’t find anything wrong or interfering in his academic activities as he maintained sterling academic record, always topping his class, coupled with the fact that as a policy, we don’t interfere with the desires of our children, but encouraged them to realize their potentials”.
Maxcee, who wanted to be a Robotic Engineer, though he found himself admitted to study Computer Science, remains unrelenting, saying “what I’m doing now is a mere spring board in attaining my aspirations. I will become one of the global best robotics engineers. And I tell you, music will not vanish from my life. It runs in our family”.
And his father, corroborates this thought. When asked if his son’s foray into music will promote or impede his academic programme, he responded that “it doesn’t impede, rather, it enhances his academic progress, neither did we ever get any report from his school or university that it encumbered his academic pursuit”.
Asked about who his Nigerian and foreign musical idol is, Maxcee responded “I can’t say I have a musical idol, but I am mostly inspired by Odumodu Black and Pop Smoke”.
Growing up and while at the exit point of his basic education, at age 11, Chinazom started exhibiting signs of this great strides. His parents simply cherished his skills and cherished those things in their hearts.
At the moment, he has produced a thrilling number titled “ASHADE”, trending on Instagram as a must watch with several millions of viewers.
Maxcee promises to be one of Nigeria best just like: Davido, Ashake, Asher, Paul Okoye (P-Square), Temilade Openiyi (Yemi), Chibuzo Nelson Azubuike (aka Phyno), Chinedu Izuchukwu Okoli (Flavour N’abania), among others who have grown up to be what they are today.
