The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has impounded over 670 vehicles for various offences across the territory in the last past one month.
Ajao Adewale, Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police disclosed this while briefing journalists after FCT Security Council meeting chaired by the minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike on Tuesday.
He said the feet was achieved through operation sweep Abuja, a taskforce constituted under the directive of the minister, being headed by the commissioner of police to curb crime and maintain sanity in the nation’s capital.
Adewale explained that the vehicles were impounded for improper documentation, tinted glasses, covered number plates, and operating of bolt without authorisation.
Regarding general security within the FCT, The CP said during the meeting issues of resurging cases of armed robbery, cases of communal conflict in Bwari, Kwali and Gwagwalada Area Councils were discussed.
He revealed that more than 273 destitutes were evacuated in strategic locations under the period.
Adewale also said those arrested are undergoing profiling at the Vocational and Rehabilitation centre in Bwari after which they will be taken to their respective places.
On the recent farmers and herders clash, especially at Gurfata in Gwagwalada Area Council, he said the stakeholders have signed peace accord and it will be replicated at all levels for permanent peace.
Adewale said, “So many arrests have been made since the commencement of operation sweep Abuja, within the period more than 273 destitutes were taken to Bwari, where they are undergoing profiling after which they will be taken to where they belong.
“Within the same period, more than 670 vehicles were impounded, due to the issue of improper documentation, tinted glasses, covered number plates, and the issue of operating without authorisation especially bolt.
“The clash between the farmers and the herders in Gwagwalada Area Council, to God be the glory, that issue has been laid to rest. The stakeholders have been able to sign a peace accord which will be escalated down to all levels to ensure that there is permanent peace in that community.
“We are currently on ground in that environment in terms of confidence building to ensure that we don’t have a repeat of that situation or any form of repression”
