Frontline political and and humanitarian, Peter Obi, has dismissed threats from the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, as a non-issuie and vowed to return to Edo State despite the governor saying his safety could not be guaranteed in the state.

Speaking to journalists in Awka, Obi dismissed the threats, stating they would not deter him from his mission to support education and healthcare initiatives across Nigeria.

He made the remarks while on a visit to his alma mater, Christ the King College (CKC), Onitsha, where he and other alumni members donated N50 million to fund staff quarters and a new administrative building.

The former Governor of Anambra state emphasized his commitment to investing in people, stressing, “if I have the opportunity to go to Benin and make donations again, trust me, I will go there.”

Reacting to Okpebholo’s threats, Obi noted that, “the threats don’t make any meaning to me. I receive threats every day.”

He urged Okpebholo to support such initiatives rather than issuing warnings, adding, “what the governor should have done is to complement what I was doing in his state instead of threatening me. He should be sincerely grateful.”

Obi further reiterated his call for Nigerians with honest means to invest in education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation.

“We should de-emphasise politics and think more of how to invest in the people,” he stated, highlighting the importance of empowering communities through tangible contributions.

The former governor outlined his on-going efforts at improving humanity, noting that he would continue visiting schools across Nigeria to make similar donations in the coming days.

“I’m going to be in a school on Saturday, Sunday, and even on Monday. Forget about the threat, it’s a waste of time,” Obi stressed.

Obi’s donation to CKC Onitsha was a collaborative effort with fellow alumni members, which has sparked by discussions about the school’s infrastructure needs.

He stressed the importance of such contributions, saying, “I did not say go and steal money and donate to schools. Those who have verifiable honest means of livelihood should endeavour to invest in society.”
