Former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano and his wife, Ebelechukwu, have been placed arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

The duo left the Government House, Awka, shortly after the inauguration of Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, ex-Goveenor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as the new governor of the state and for the new Anambra State Airport in Aguleri, from where they flew to Lagos.

The former Governor and his wife were said to be on their way to Houston, Texax, in the United States of America, where Obiano has a permanent residence when they were apprehended.

Obiano had earlier on Thursday handed over to Prof. Soludo as Governor of Anambra State but the event ended on a sour note when Obiano’s wife, without any provocation, left his seat on the VIP dias, walked to the wife of the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and former beauty Queen, Bianca, and slapped her.

Her action spewed anger from the dignitaries who had assembled for the inauguration, but calm quickly returned with the intervention of even the clergy who calmed Bianca down, and Obiano and his wife immediately left the venue of the inauguration and headed for the airport.

Sources said that the former governor and his wife were being questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

They may have been moved to an EFCC detention facility for onward movement to Abuja, but the story has not fully developed before this report was filed.
