The Nigeria Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has donated relief materials to victims of the recent attacks in some communities of Plateau State.
The agency also said it would be building 19 units of houses for victims of attacks, who have been displaced from their ancestral homes in the State.
Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC, Jimoh Haruna Gabi, stated this while presenting relief materials to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, in Jos the Plateau State Capital on Thursday.
He said, “The Nigeria Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) is in Plateau State to commiserate with the government and people of the State over the recent carnage that befell some communities.
“We knew that with what happened, residents of the affected communities couldn’t go to farm or market, so we are aware that foodstuff will give some immediate respite to the victims.
According to him, “In the past, we have distributed fertilisers, planters, sprayers among others to farmers, but at the moment we have just collected the lists of items they will require, so that we can make it available for the farmers in the affected communities.
Speaking further, the MD said, “We consider resettlement program for people who were sacked from their ancestral homes, maybe due to flood and insecurity. And Plateau State is part of the places we give such intervention.
“The commission deemed it fit to build resettlement houses to help alleviate the suffering of the displaced persons”, he assured.
He said Bassa LGA would have 6 units of the resettlement houses, while Mangu and Bokkos LGAs would have 13.
Adding that, such units of houses have been built in some states, and in Plateau State is just the beginning.
Among some of the items donated were, bags of rice, noodles, beverages and mattresses.
In his remarks, Mutfwang who was represented by the Executive Secretary PLASEMA, Sunday Abdu, said, “On behalf of the government and the resilient people of Plateau State, | extend our profound appreciation to the Director-General of the Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPADEC)} for this truly timely and invaluable gesture.
“Your decision to find Plateau State worthy of this support, especially to our hydro communities, which then extends to all internally displaced persons across the state, is a testament to your compassion and commitment.
“We are truly honoured to have you here in Plateau for this significant occasion.
Mutfwang recalled that the State has, regrettably, faced myriad of challenges; from natural disasters like devastating windstorms, rainstorms, and erosion, to the more tragic and continuous armed attacks on peaceful citizens in their ancestral homes, our people have endured immense suffering.
“This distribution of relief materials today to the five crisis-affected Local Government Areas, Mangu, Bokkos, Bassa, Riyom, and Barkin Ladi; is a beacon of hope”, he explained.
“While we are incredibly grateful for these essential supplies, we must also use this opportunity’ to reiterate our urgent call for more comprehensive intervention”, he maintained.

“Ensuring robust security for our communities, facilitating the resettlement of displaced persons, providing vital farm implements to enable our people to return to their livelihoods, and offering crucial scholarships to secure the future of our young generation.
“We believe that this is just the beginning of a sustained partnership”, he admonished.
